Compliance vs. Reality

This course examines the regulations and provides training for what you, as an FSO, need to know about security, not just what the regulations require for compliance purposes. This course takes a practical, common sense look at current and pending regulations, and provides you with the guidance necessary to be your facility’s FSO.

Topics Include:

  • Overview of TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Conducting and assessing security drills and exercises
  • Handling SSI and security related communications / documents
  • Knowledge of current security threats and patterns
  • Methods of conducting assessments, audits, inspections, control, & monitoring
  • Methods of physical screening and non-intrusive inspections
  • Facility and vessel operations and conditions
  • Facility and vessel security measures (MARSEC Levels)
  • Operation, testing and maintenance of security equipment and systems
  • Recognition, detection and proper handling of dangerous substances and devices
  • Recognition of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security
  • Relevant government legislation and regulations
  • Security equipment and systems and their operational limitations
  • Techniques for security training and education, including security measures and procedures
  • Techniques used to circumvent security measures

Hours: Classes are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day
